Description
I love my garden, created over the past 15 years from the corner of a field. In the wildlife pond, in the season there are lots of tadpoles and a couple of newts!
The garden has vegetable and fruit beds, a polytunnel, a zig zagging flower bed, a separate herb garden, a couple of damson trees and an uncooperative apple tree. A hedge of indigenous species forms the southern field boundary.
It also has a couple of chairs and a hammock to sit and enjoy it all plus the woodland and open valley views.
I have a flower garden at the front of the house with moss lawn and hedges.

The village, set in open countryside, is one long row of houses on a hillside, left when the colliery and housing were demolished in the 1960's.

On the site of the old colliery have a neighbourhood nature reserve and a Durham Wildlife Reserve towards the head of the valley. We're a few miles from Weardale, Durham City and 15 miles from Newcastle/Gateshead.
