Description
OrganisationI recently moved to a snug Scottish Farmhouse in an area of outstanding beauty, with 1 acre of grass. I am busy creating veg garden, a small orchard, rearing chickens for meat and will have sheep next year. I would love some help, perhaps for a couple of weekends to begin with, as I am new to WWOOFing In September I will be planting fruit trees, chopping wood, digging potatoes, clipping the hedge, clearing weeds form the base of the hedge, creating raised beds and tending the greenhouse, chickens and bees. An extra pair of hands or two would be much appreciated in return for lashings of plain farmhouse cooking, a cosy spare room and a woodburing stove in the sitting room for chilly evenings. I am happy to share my experience of years of organic veg growing with recycling/reusing/permaculture ideas thrown in, with anyone who is interested. I live in a fabulous area of rural Perthshire with amazing wildlife, fantastic walking, with lots of sheep and cattle around. I share my acre with 2 laying birds (they are pets and do not end up in the pot), 40 free range meat birds (ready to meet their destiny in October), bees, 1 very soft labrador, 2 burmese cats, and a lot of field mice, house martins, swifts, oyster catchers, curlews, lapwings and buzzards. I enjoy the peace and tranquility of the area, and do not often play (classical) music or watch TV, although I have a flatscreen in the sitting room with the woodburning stove. I have 2 spare bedrooms, 1 single and 1 double and an eclectic mix of books from Neville Shute to beekeeping.View
OrganisationWe have a small 30 acre smallholding with south facing slopes in the beautiful Chew Valley, between Chew Magna and Winford and about 8 miles from the centre of Bristol. Bath and Wells are both also accessible. Since we moved here 13 years ago we have developed a cider apple orchard and we now harvest apples each year in October and take them to Thatchers. I am also in the process of designing and planting a forest garden and the work for that is going to be substantial ! WWOOFers with skills, confidence (and licences) to drive farm machinery would be particularly helpful. We have one double bedded room available with a shared bathroom. I am an English teacher and work part-time for the English Speaking Board. I'd be happy to help anyone wanting to improve their spoken English and/or presentation skills. Please contact me by e-mail in the first instance.View
OrganisationWe live in Mid West Wales on bus route; inland from Cardigan. Young person would have own bedroom with en suite and use of alternative sitting room with television. Home plus fairly large garden; but work would be required for the vegetable organic garden mainly. Also in summer (better dry weather) clearing hedges and ditches in field.View
OrganisationWildlife retreat, granite cottage set in 6acres of mixed land with poly tunnel and field growing organic produce. Garden surrounded with woods and growing organically and environmently friendly, wildlife ponds and fields for hay. Livestock chickens and gloucester old spot pigs. Woodland for coppiced wood and wildlife. Dogs are chocolate labradors and very people friendly.View
OrganisationWe are a family run smallholding of 5 acres in rural Somerset about 4 miles from a small town. We garden biodynamically and are in the process of building up our smallholding using permacultural ideas. We have a large green house, polytunnel and large veg garden. The pond is under construction and we are now in the process of planting many trees. In the spring we will have orphan lambs to bring on from the local farmers. We have a hive of bees which we will be expanding this summer. We have extra protective suits if wwoofers wish to help with them. We have an established orchard and many fruiting bushes too. We have an outside wood burning sauna and bath, which WWOOFers are free to use respectfully if they wish. Wwoofers who work here will be expected to get stuck in with what ever job is at hand, planting, compost building, biodynamic preparation spraying. View
OrganisationHello. We're a couple in mid 30's with 2.5 acres (3 fields, 2 glasshouses, small processing barn and scrub land to beach) on the Channel island of Guernsey (7x5 miles big) . Jacob sheep, Indian Runner ducks and chickens, kept for mowers, slug patrol and their produce. Grow organically for food and products to sell, whilst supporting natural habitats. Evolving as an educational and sustainable agricultural land project. Permaculture merges with everything we try to achieve. Work and projects diverse: animal husbandry, growing food, herbal medicine, maintaining land, foraging on the land/seashore, weaving, pond making, making paths and fences, finishing our green oak barn, compost toilet, felt making and your ideas. Started hosting short courses based around sustainable living and foraging. You are very welcome to help and share with our venture. Great beaches, fires with new friends, shared time to enjoy. Pop us an email if you visiting us.View
OrganisationSmall holding of 22 acres including a 2,5 woodland. We are not registered but grow on organic principles. We grow a wide range of produce on gently south sloping culm grassland We are particularly interested in making jam and preserves from our own produce which I sell to small local retailers. We would welcome everyone, but non English guests, wishing to improve their English would be more than welcome. Likewise, an interest in jam making would be fun! There is a good bus from Exeter to Okehampton.View
OrganisationFamily run mixed organic farm. We have chickens and a small flock of sheep and produce vegetables in the field and under cover in polytunnels. We are currently building a cob (earthen) house on the farm and welcome volunteers. The farm is set in a stunningly beautiful part of the Oxfordshire countryside, half of the farm is part of an Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) and we are only a cycle ride from Oxford's historic city centre. Accommodation available for short or long stays. View
OrganisationWe have lived here for 16 years, farming 20 acres of grazing land with cattle, sheep, pigs, geese, hens and turkeys extensively. We fed our animals organically and did not use chemical fertilizer. There is a small wooded area, orchard, vegetable garden, greenhouse and large spring-fed lake. We are diversifying into B&B tourism with craft activities such as pottery, willow weaving, walks, bike rides, fishing and local tours, so we would like some help to extend the vegetable garden, soft fruit area and orchard to grow more produce. We aim to become self-sufficient with free range chickens, geese and turkeys; these will want housing and fences constructed and we need help with the general upkeep and maintenance of the farm to establish ourselves as an organic tourism provider.View
OrganisationAccording to MAFF (the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Farming in 1990) we're not so much a farm, as a joke ... We have 72 acres (29 hectares) of glorious seaside pastures and scrubby cliffside. Very exposed - if it's sunny, it's very very sunny - if windy, it's a gale - if raining, it's cats & dogs (usually horizontal). We see our (Jacob) sheep not as livestock but as a help to us in keeping our land in good order. We care for them with respect for their lifestyle and instincts. There is little work to be done in connection with keeping them, except a visual check every day, and foot-trimming every couple of months. We dont' dip, dock, medicate, mutilate, artficially inseminate or kill (except when quality of life is such that a swift death comes as a release). The help I'd be grateful for is twofold: 1) anything to do with veg and fruit growing, permaculture style - my husband used to do all this side of things, but he died a couple of years ago and I have neither the knowledge nor the time to acquire it. So NB I can't teach this, apart from theory from books. 2) converting an old stone coach-house into a camping barn. Off-grid. (This will be for coast-path walkers seeking somewhere basic and convenient to stay half way between two existing hostels, in Plymouth and near Fowey. Also as an education centre for people who'd like to learn off-grid living (without going into debt to do it) and survival skills.) We'll be doing woodwork, stonework, plumbing, insulation ... whatever it takes to turn an old stone building into an old stone building that's got enough stuff in it to make it an interesting place for people to stay for a night or two.View
OrganisationWe are located in the South Hams region of Devon. Situated between Dartmoor National Park and the sea. Ideal base for exploring the local picturesque countryside, local attractions, birdwatching and walking. A good network of public footpaths very close to the farm, including one running across the farm. We are a couple who live in a modern bungalow with elderly parents living in a georgian nine bedroomed farmhouse, two fields away. We run a 120 acre beef farm rearing calves through to finishing cattle. Depending on the season, tasks would include feeding calves, cattle work, cropping, grass cutting, clearing overgrowth, & DIY in doors. Skills related to above, appreciated, but a willingness to learn is just as important. We also run a 5 unit Caravan Club site with electric hook ups. This years project is to look at extending our living accomodation, starting a new dairy enterprise linked with alternative technology. This includes looking at a wind turbine, and installing our own water system to feed the existing troughs on the farm. We produce our own eggs and are aim is to become fully sustainable. We are looking towards producing our own garden produce. We have some very overgrown gardens that need to be cleared and reinstated. In years gone by these gardens used to supply two thriving farming families all year round. We welcome WWOOFers from around the world and would expect them to live as part of our family, and par take in household chores as needed. Long and short term WWOOFer's would be welcome.View
OrganisationSmall community of 8 adults and one infant, (and 4 young adults, children of members, occasionally home during the holidays or weekends), living consciously together, sharing our (various) spiritual, political and social values. We are located in the countryside close to Findhorn, in the North of Scotland. There is a vibrant alternative population in the area, attracted by the Findhorn Foundation, to which we are loosely affiliated. Mainly self-sufficient in organic fruit and vegetables, we manage around 2 acres of land, including a large poly-tunnel, large vegetable growing areas, and many flower beds. We eat together at least five evenings a week, sharing the cooking. Accommodation is usually in a small caravan in the garden with access to a shower and toilet in the communal kitchen. We normally only have accommodation and work for one Wwoofer at a time. The work is mainly in the community garden, but could also include work in other gardens, a woodland, cooking, building or general maintenance. View
OrganisationWe are a family run smallholding, working on organic principles for the last 25 years. We have 14 acres, with another 50 acres on the Lizard peninsula. We have orchards, a large vegetable and soft fruit garden and keep poultry, pigs, horses and bees. We are 5 minutes from the coast and close to many good surfing beaches. Help required with all sorts of projects, from lake building, woodland management, and green timber build, as well as the usual seasonal work. Autumn will bring the apple harvest and help is always needed with all aspects of cider and juice production. We are happy for any unskilled labour, any skills a bonus. Food is all home produced. Email or ring if interested for further details.View
OrganisationWe are a family with a 21 acre smallholding with some woodland and pastureland in the beautiful Blackdown Hills, close to the durassic coast. Jamies work is in recycling but luckily allows him to work from home most of the time and Emma is a stay at home mum. The children (all boys!) are 12, 7, and 1 and go to local schools. And 3 dogs who love walks and playing! We moved here nearly 2 years ago and had lots of exciting plans but struggled last year, due to a physical health problem, which is now sorted and we can't wait to get stuck in. We have family in New Zealand who regularly have wwoofers to stay and they are always telling us about the great work they do and also what fun they have meeting new people from around the world. We are now getting ready with our veggie plot and hope to have lots of good natural tasty produce. Jamie has worked with wood for many years and wants to get to grips with our hedges and woodland. We have come on great strides in converting our home from oil fuel to wood fuel aga and woodburner etc and are hoping to do more. We keep Chickens at the moment, which our eldest son hopes to raise our own chicks with, and when we have caught up with ourselves we would also like to have some livestock for our own use. We love to eat well with what we can grow here and pick from our very bountiful hedgerows and love to spend time in our kitchen making lots of things. We can offer 3 good meals a day and good accomodation with a friendy fun loving family.View
OrganisationWe are an organic farm with a community feel. The farm itself is just under 200 acres and has diversified into a busy campsite in the last 4 years. We have a large polytunnel and vegetable garden. We plan to double our production of pumpkins and squashes, enabling us to sell more to our campers. We have a few chickens. We ask our helpers to get involved with the campsite (making wooden furniture, maintaining the yurts, delivering firewood logs, erecting tents) as well as in the garden and the numerous other projects we have going on. We like to work with the individuals and see where their interests and strength's lie and where they fit in best. We prefer volunteers to stay for longer periods of time, after an initial 2 week trial. We hope to welcome you into our home soon.View

We have workshops and camps for music, drumming, greenwood skills development - canoeing, swimming (1 mile to river) Many visitors for the purpose of learning methods for sustainable living - teach coppicing methods and all forms of green living. Need help with ongoing conservation of the site and continuing development of infrastructure of project, including cob building and water power. This summer we will need help with creating our vegetable garden and also building a structure, from hazel coppiced from our site, for music events we will be hosting. It is best to phone us on the mobile anytime or write. We don't access the internet often.View

OrganisationOur 54 acre organic hill farm is near Brechfa in beautiful Carmarthenshire with a further 120 acres overlooking the Cothi Valley. Specialising in traditional rare breeds of cattle and sheep, we sell meat, wool and livestock direct from the website. We are currently renovating the farm house, yard and buildings, including developing old stone barns for meat packing, wool and textiles processing, and farm-gate sales. We also have plans for a (very) small orchard and vegetable plot, and have just started keeping bees. The farm environment and wildlife are especially important. There are trees and hedges to plant plus bird and mammal boxes to make and install around the farm as well as organic pasture management (weeding mostly!). A busy family of three, we welcome help with anything and everything.View
