The Market Gardener - Jean-Martin Fortier

Jean-Martin Fortier started his journey into farming via internships and WWOOFing along with his wife, Maude-Helene Desroches. The pair eventually began their own project on rented land and honed their skills over the years. Jean-Martin recently took a couple of years out from farming to write the book 'The Market Gardener: A Successful Grower's Handbook For Smallscale Organic Farming' - he contends that it is possible to make a healthy living from just a few acres of land. "I felt that there was a need for a book like this. I have been involved in growing the food movement. My response was to tell people that they can grow and this is how" says Fortier.

The couple have also made a successful film and have a website which even describes the tools they use/recommend and where to get hold of them too: http://www.themarketgardener.com/market-gardening-tools/

Fortier, born and raised in Quebec, began farming with his wife, Maude-Hélène Desroches, as interns and WWOOFers. Years later, they started their own project on rented land. Like many others, they dreamed of farming on their own land and worked hard to make that a reality. - See more at: http://civileats.com/2015/04/21/earn-a-good-living-without-a-tractor-a-m...
