Description
We are a typical upland hill farm situated in the beautiful valley of the Black Esk. The house and barns are surrounded by fields. We have an organic garden with large deep beds for vegetable and fruit bushes. Because we have been working away this has been neglected and we would like volunteers who can help bring it back into full production. The house is heated by wood and we have Solar Electric with PV panels. Wood for heating is sourced in the forest nearby and we cut, split and stack on site. We are close to Samye Ling, the UK’s first Tibetan Buddhist monastery. We will be restoring a traditional stone byre (barn) as a workspace as well as build some eco –shelters for temporary accommodation. Our children live independently now but home occasionally. There is a lot of interesting wildlife including badgers, otters and birds of prey.
