2000m2 think global, eat local - Community growing, food waste reduction, cooking and composting on Whitmuir Farm for the Whitmuir Community Benefit Society.

Here is a summary of what the job entails:

As an experienced grower you will maintain and increase the produce of the 2000m2 project plot on Whitmuir Farm.  The produce is grown for the 2 partner schools and you will help us recruit and support volunteer growers. You will use your growing skills on the 2000m2 plot as a tool for teaching about the food system, sustainability and climate change. You will inspire children, families and young people through school outreach workshops and Farm visits as directed by Project Manager.

Every person on the planet has 2000m2 of arable ground to grow food. On Whitmuir Farm you can see what that looks like and what we can grow on it here in Scotland.

2000m2: think global, eat local gets us acting on the challenge of feeding everyone well, looking after our planet helping change the world three times a day, every time we eat. Within the project and out on our 2000m2 field reducing our community’s food waste, composting what’s left, growing food with and for the community and the schools, training cannier cooks and bringing the big food questions to life. The project which is rooted in our local area and linked to a global 2000m2 community, will help us move from being local food consumers to food citizens and will reduce our local carbon emissions as a result.

This project is funded by the Climate Challenge Fund, part of Keep Scotland Beautiful.
